Methodologies

The guide steps back. The child steps forward.

Montessori-inspired, play-based practice - what it means in the room, in plain language.

Our methodology

We follow the child, not the timetable

Montessori-inspired, play-based, and stubbornly unhurried.

Child-Led

Children choose their work and learn at their own pace. The guide follows the child, not a timetable.

Hands-On

Learning by doing. Abstract ideas arrive through materials a child can touch, move and repeat.

Holistic

The whole child matters - body, mind and heart together, never one at the expense of another.

“The greatest sign of success for a teacher is to be able to say, 'The children are now working as if I did not exist.'”
- Maria Montessori

The classroom is a prepared environment

Every shelf, mat and material is placed at child height, in order, so a child can enter the room and decide for themselves what to do. Nothing is decorative. Everything has a place and a purpose - and when the work is finished, it goes back exactly where it was found.

Teachers are guides, not lecturers

A guide demonstrates once, steps back, and observes. They note which material a child reaches for, which one they avoid, and when to offer the next challenge - and when not to. The goal is a child who no longer needs the adult in the room.

Learning in action

What a morning actually looks like

Six areas of the prepared environment. A child chooses freely - and works far longer than an adult would ever dare to ask.

Practical Life

Pouring, buttoning, sweeping, serving - everyday tasks build concentration, order and independence.

Sensorial Exploration

Materials that isolate one quality at a time - weight, colour, texture, sound - so the senses sharpen.

Language & Literacy

Sandpaper letters, moveable alphabets and a print-rich room turn sounds into words and words into stories.

Mathematics

Golden beads and spindles make quantity something a child can hold, not just recite.

Cultural Studies

Maps, music, festivals and food from around the world - the wider world, brought down to child height.

Outdoor Learning

Garden beds, open space and loose parts for building. The outdoors is a classroom, not a break.

Holistic development

Six pillars we grow together

A child is never just 'good at maths'. We plan for body, mind and heart at the same time, every week.

Cognitive

Thinking, reasoning and problem-solving grow through materials that invite curiosity rather than instruction.

  • Puzzles and logic games
  • Sensorial activities
  • Language materials
  • Math concepts

Emotional Intelligence

Children learn to name what they feel, manage big emotions and repair friendships on their own.

  • Feelings circles
  • Mindfulness
  • Conflict resolution
  • Self-expression

Social Skills

Mixed-age groups mean younger children are mentored and older children learn responsibility.

  • Group projects
  • Role-playing
  • Peer mentoring
  • Community building

Physical

Bodies need room to run, climb, balance and stretch - indoors and out, every single day.

  • Outdoor games
  • Yoga and movement
  • Fine motor work
  • Sports

Creative Expression

There is no wrong colour. Children make, perform and invent until their ideas have a shape.

  • Visual arts
  • Music and rhythm
  • Dramatic play
  • Creative storytelling

Environmental Awareness

Caring for a seedling or a stray puppy teaches stewardship better than any poster can.

  • Gardening
  • Nature exploration
  • Recycling
  • Animal care
